A sweltering Austin summer can push even the most active adults to their limits. Add a neurological condition, chronic pain, or lingering injury, and the heat can make exercise feel overwhelming fast.
Hot weather can be tough on the nervous system, especially in people living with neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. And since the nervous system controls movement, coordination, and energy use, these impacts can be wide-ranging.
Fortunately, the team at NeuFit HQ is here to help you navigate summer heat. Our neurofirst approach can help you train more efficiently, recover with less stress, and improve function–no matter how high the temperatures get.

Meet Katie Davies:

Why Heat Changes the Way the Body Performs
Exercise naturally increases body temperature, which is why you sweat during a workout: your body is cooling itself by shifting blood flow toward the skin. This process is normal, but it does demand extra energy. When temperatures are already high, your body requires even more energy to stay cool, which puts additional stress on the nervous system.
For people whose nervous system already struggles to keep up with the cooling demands of physical activity, high temperatures just make things harder. This is particularly true for people with neurological conditions, whose symptoms may temporarily worsen in the heat because nerve signals that travel from your brain to your muscles can slow as body temperature rises.
That said, this doesn’t mean you should avoid activity altogether. Instead, you just need training strategies that match how your nervous system responds to stress. And that’s where our team comes in.
The Benefits of Our Neurofirst Approach
We focus on improving communication between the brain, nerves, and muscles. Instead of forcing the body through movement patterns that increase strain, we help the nervous system work more efficiently.
By combining personalized movement training with advanced neuromuscular stimulation, our team will identify areas of neurological dysfunction and support improved muscle recruitment during exercise.
Our goal is to help you better tolerate activity as your movements become more efficient and less draining–which is especially important during hot Texas summers.

Smarter Training Strategies During Hot Weather
Gradual Exercise Progression
Sudden increases in intensity can overload the nervous system. However, adjusting certain factors–including exercise duration, resistance levels, or recovery intervals–gives your body a chance to adapt more efficiently. This helps improve heat tolerance while reducing excessive fatigue.
Nervous System Regulation
Heat stress can increase sympathetic nervous system activity, triggering your body’s fight-or-flight response. This means you might experience symptoms such as increased muscle tension, heightened pain sensitivity, or greater fatigue. Through breathing strategies and targeted recovery techniques, we can help enhance exercise tolerance.
Efficient Movement Training
Poor movement patterns require more energy, so in high temperatures, inefficient movement can lead to exhaustion more quickly. We’ll work with you to improve balance, gait, and functional movements so you use less energy during exercise and daily activities.
Recovery-Focused Care
Recovery matters just as much as exercise itself. Unfortunately, when you stay overheated, your body keeps its internal alarm system running. This delays your natural healing process and leaves your muscles feeling extra sore and exhausted. We’ll guide you through personalized recovery strategies that might include electrical stimulation, mobility work, and cool strategies.
More Tips for Exercising Safely in the Texas Heat
In addition to working with NeuFit HQ, you can take some simple steps to further reduce heat-related stress during exercise. We recommend:
- Exercising early in the morning before the heat gets too bad
- Taking frequent cooling breaks
- Drinking fluids consistently throughout the day
- Wearing lightweight, breathable clothing
- Using cooling towels or fans
- Choosing shorter exercise intervals with recovery periods
Most importantly, you should pay attention to how your body responds. If you notice weakness, dizziness, or fatigue, it may be a sign that your nervous system needs additional recovery.
Keep Moving With Confidence This Summer
Hot weather can create real challenges for people recovering from injury or living with neurological conditions. However, with the right support from the NeuFit HQ team, you can continue building strength, improving function, and staying active safely.
If summer heat has made exercise more difficult, our team can help you develop a personalized plan that supports safer movement and better performance all season long. Contact us today to learn more about how our approach can help you feel stronger, move better, and stay active no matter the temperature.

One-Size-Fits-All Doesn’t Work for Everyone
Most group classes follow a generic format: push hard, sweat a lot, and hope for results. But if your nervous system isn’t fully engaged-or if your body is compensating-the wrong patterns get reinforced. That’s when strain, plateaus, and injuries show up.
Our approach is different. We use targeted strategies to make sure you’re activating the right muscles, using efficient movement patterns, and training with intention. With the NeuFit Method, we build stronger, faster, and safer results by starting with the nervous system-not just sets and reps.
Signs You Could Benefit from Smarter Group Training
If any of these sound familiar, our group classes may be exactly what you need:
- Repeating workouts with little progress
- Chronic tightness or soreness after class
- Trouble activating certain muscles during exercise
- Decreased motivation or energy when working out alone
- Feeling out of sync with your body during movement
- Past injuries that keep showing up during training
- Difficulty recovering between workouts

Ingredients
For the Shrimp Tacos
- 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 teaspoons chipotle chili powder
- 1 teaspoon all-spice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- kosher salt and pepper
- corn or flour tortillas
- sliced avocado, lettuce, or cabbage, for serving
For the roasted jalapeño pineapple salsa verde
- 4 tomatillos, husked and halved
- 1 jalapeño
- 2 cloves garlic, skin on
- juice of 1 lime
- juice from half an orange
- 1/4 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup diced pineapple
- 1/4 cup diced mango
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the oven. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Step 2: Roast the shrimp and salsa base. On a baking sheet, toss together the shrimp, olive oil, chili powder, all-spice, ginger, thyme, cinnamon, and a pinch each of salt and pepper. Arrange in a single layer on one side of the pan. To the other half of the pan, add the tomatillos, jalapeño, and garlic. Transfer to the oven and roast 10-12 minutes or until the shrimp is cooked and the tomatillos lightly charred.
Step 3: Blend the salsa. Set the shrimp aside. De-seed the jalapeño, if desired. Squeeze the garlic cloves out of their skin. To a blender, add the roasted tomatillos, jalapeño, garlic, lime juice, orange juice, and cilantro. Blend until smooth. Stir in the pineapple, mango, and a pinch of salt.
Step 4: Assemble and serve. Stuff the shrimp into the warmed taco shells, and top with the Roasted Jalapeño Pineapple Salsa Verde, avocado, and lettuce. Enjoy!
